Typing Test
Pick a duration, type, get your WPM and accuracy instantly. No sign-up, no ads.
Typing speed is measured in WPM — words per minute, where one word is standardized as 5 characters. Most people type at 35-45 WPM; touch typists comfortably pass 60-80 WPM, and competitive typists go beyond 100.
This test feeds you a random stream of common English words, so there is no text to memorize — every run is different. Mistyped characters must be corrected before you can continue, which makes the result a net WPM: it reflects accuracy, not just raw speed.
What makes RaceKeys different from a plain test site: when you're done warming up, you can race real people (or bots) live — same engine, same words, actual opponents.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average. 60+ WPM is good, 80+ WPM is very good, and 100+ WPM is professional level. Consistent touch-typing practice can add 20-30 WPM within a few months.
How is WPM calculated?
By international convention, 1 word = 5 characters. WPM = correctly typed characters ÷ 5 ÷ elapsed minutes. Because errors must be corrected before continuing in this test, the number you get is net WPM.
Is a 1-minute or 5-minute test more accurate?
A 1-minute test is a quick snapshot; 3-5 minute tests factor in fatigue and focus, so they reflect your sustainable pace better. If you are preparing for a job requirement, use the 3-minute test.
